No matter what your political affiliation, the partial government shutdown is affecting families. Missing paychecks mean that people are having to choose between making rent and mortgage payments and food and necessities. But several companies are trying to help. Here is a list of places offering to help families dealing with the political upheaval. This list will be updated as new offers become available.
Local Alpine Bank is giving interest-free loans to all Colorado federal workers. All workers have to do is bring in their last paystub. There is no catch. They give them two of their paychecks or 30 days worth of pay, and ask them to pay it back within six months.
Bank of America is offering personalized financial assistance to families. To get help, call 844-219-0609.
The City of Westminister offers a hardship program to support any resident who is having short-term difficulties paying their water bill due to a temporary interruption of income, such as a loss of employment.
Chase has a special care line at 888-356-0023 available to discuss hardship programs available. This program is also available for customers who do business with a federal agency affected by the shutdown.
The Credit Union of Colorado is allowing up to three skipped monthly payments on each member's Credit Union of Colorado loans including auto loan payments, lines of credit, personal unsecured loans, recreational vehicles and other secured loans.
The Credit Union of Denver is offering payment deferrals and interest-free loans for furloughed employees affected by the government shutdown. Bring a valid federal ID badge to take advantage of this offer.
Elevations Credit Union is offering "skip-a-payment" on loans for customers in good standing.
Metrum Credit Union is offering interest-free personal loans equal to a worker's monthly pay.
Navy Federal Credit Union who have direct deposit of federal government pay may be eligible for no-interest loans to help get through this time. The loans must be repaid within 60 days or when the government processes back-pay, whichever is sooner.
Premier Member's Credit Union is offering a fixed rate loan with no payments for 90 days and a term up to 24 months for any federal employee affected by the shutdown.
Quicken Loans is waiving all late fees for clients who may miss a mortgage payment due to the shutdown.
Sunwest Educational Credit Union is offering payment deferrals and interest-free loans.
In response to the partial government shutdown, the city and county of Denver is offering to help furloughed workers make mortgage payments. Starting Wednesday, January 16, the city and county will pay the next two mortgage payments to help furloughed workers get through the shutdown. The program will pay up to $5,000 in mortgage payments with no repayment necessary. It's designed for moderate-income families. Workers do not have to repay the payments. They only have to prove they qualify by showing a recent financial hardship such as a furlough or temporary layoff. The city says it has enough money in the program to help about 225 families. Officials are encouraging only those who truly need it to submit an application. The city and county are offering the program through a partnership with United Way's 211 call center. To start the application process on Wednesday, text or call 211. For anyone who rents a home or apartment, there is also assistance available for rent and utilities.
Wells Fargo is willing to work with individuals and business banking customers who have been disrupted by the shutdown. Call 1-800-TO-WELLS or the number on your credit or debit card for assistance. Mortgage, loan and other credit customers may qualify for forbearance or other payment assistance programs based on their individual circumstances.
Unemployment benefits are available for federal employees affected by the shutdown.
U.S. Bank is advising federal workers to inquire about their client assistance programs that may waive late fees or provide loan modifications.
AT&T customers affected by the shutdown are eligible for flexible payment options. You can make payment arrangements online.
Sprint will work with qualified customers to maintain service during the shutdown. Call 888-211-4727 or go online to make arrangements.
TMobile is providing short-term account assistance for furloughed federal workers including payment deferral and flexible payment options. Call 877-746-0909 to learn options.
Verizon has flexible payment options and is offering a "Promise to Pay" program. Just go to their app or website or call 866-266-1445 for more information.

Antonio's Real New York Pizza at 1560 Big Thompson Ave. is offering free meals for federal workers with a valid ID. Just ask for the "Help from Friends" order. You can also donate to a gift card to help pay for these meals by contributing to the "Help from Friends" Fund.
Aperitivo at 5530 Spine Rd. is providing a complimentary meal for any furloughed government employee/contractor and family, up to a family of 4. They will provide a family a meal per week for as long as the political shutdown continues.
"B" Sweet Cupcakes at 425 E 4th St is offering a free mini cupcake or cookie for furloughed employees with an ID card.
The Big Red F Restaurant Group which includes The Post Brewing Co. (all locations), Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar (LoDo), Centro, Zolo, and West End Tavern will be offering a special “Furlough Lunch” Monday through Friday for government employees. The special begins Monday, January 14, and runs through the end of the furlough; not including tax and tip.
The Black Steer at 436 N Lincoln Ave is offering a free lunch to furloughed federal employees and their immediate family members with a government ID daily between 11 am and 3 pm.

As government workers go another week without getting paid, nationwide restaurant chain Fazoli's is feeding furloughed government employees. The restaurant chain said earlier this week that it will offer a free Pizza Baked Spaghetti with small drink purchase to all federal government workers affected by the shutdown. In order to cash in on the deal, Fazoli's is requiring proof of employment. The deal runs through Sunday, January 13, and is available at participating locations only.
